Something I stumbled across going out for a walk a short while ago: “For some, this is what home looks like this Christmas”.
The floor space presented here is not far off what I am currently paying £1,800 per month for, and I certainly agree with the point that the Dublin housing market is dysfunctional. This is a major reason why in principle I have already decided to move elsewhere. However what grates me the most is that by the charity’s own admission the number one cause of homelessness is landlords selling up, and this in turn is in response to the anti-landlord environment that has developed over the last five years.
I will leave it as an excercise for the reader to find out which organisations are mostly responsible for this anti-landlord sentiment.
Having been away from Dublin for long periods of time, this is iconic of the screwed-up housing situation that made me wonder whether my future is elsewhere, and if I had any love left for Dublin before seeing it I certainly did not afterwards. In the future I will likely look back at this watershed.
