The sound-bite in the Andrew Marr Show clip with Ugur Sahin, who is one of the key people behind the most promising vaccine, is that there could be a “normal winter” next year. This is in line with noises from elsewhere that point towards the last quarter of 2021.
The bad news is that this validates the time scale I mused only a few days ago and that we are still nearer the start of the pandemic than the end. Put another way 2021 is not going to be much different from 2020. Depressing.
I am not sure when I psychologically gave up on 2020 as a complete write-off but the real prospect of having to do the same for 2021 is having its impact. This time of year is when I would normally be ticking off the days on a calendar but this year it is just waiting for more emptiness. With no long-term accommodation life feels like perpetual temporariness and it is impossible to properly plan anything, the latter being something that cost me my relationship of three years.
