Over the weekend the website went offline due to some infrastructure problems with the hosting service it resides on. I am told by the technicians that the server was down for the count but that all the data had survived. After a rebuild the website is back up on a new machine.
The server was provisioned back in the latter half of 2012 as I was wrapping things up in the UK, and I still remember the day I made the banner which summed up my view of the place at the time. Eight years is a very long time for the same server to still be mostly unchanged, with pretty much everything from the website software to the server itself long overdue an overhaul.
I really need to automate the backups though. With a lot of stuff on my mind it is the sort of choir that slips through the net, and as a result was contemplating how many posts had potentially been lost.
